Paul Smith, from IMEZ, LLC is now a Certified Wood Special Inspector through the City of San Diego (Certificate Number 1066)
Per the 2007 California Building Code Section 1707, Special Inspections for Seismic Resistance, Section 1707.3 Structural Wood; where the fastener spacing of the sheathing is four inches or less- - - a special inspection is required to be performed by a Certified Wood Special Inspector.
1707.3 Structural Wood. Continuous special inspection is required during field gluing operations of elements of the seismic-force-resisting system. Periodic special inspections is required for nailing, bolting, anchoring and other fastening of components within the seismic-force-resisting system, including wood shear walls, wood diaphragms, drag struts, braces, shear panels and hold-downs.
Exception: Special inspection is not required for wood shear walls, shear panels and diaphragms, including nailing, bolting, anchoring and other fastening to other components of the seismic-force-resisting system, where the fastener spacing of the sheathing is more than 4 inches (102 mm) on center (o.c.)
